PPL Electric Utilities is seeking proposals from competitive suppliers to provide a portion of the supply the company will need beginning January 2011, in order to fulfill its obligation as a default service provider.
As a default service provider, PPL Electric Utilities must purchase and provide generation supply for customers who don’t choose alternative suppliers. The company serves 1.4 million customers in 29 counties of central and eastern Pennsylvania.
The company is now seeking contracts for 23- and 26-month supply for load following full requirements fixed price tranches, 5-month supply for load following full requirements spot market tranches, 5-year supply of block energy and alternative energy credits.
NERA Economic Consulting has been hired as an independent third-party to manage the RFP process.
