Power Quality Standards

No single document provides a universally adopted set of criteria to define the quality of electricity. However, because power quality is affected by every element in the electric supply path, from power plant to end use, it is necessary to establish standards. Authorities setting these standards include:

  • American National Standards Institute (ANSI),
  • Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS),
  • Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE),
  • National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), and
  • Underwriters Laboratories (UL)
