Voltage Regulators

Voltage regulators are devices that keep the line voltage to sensitive equipment within certain acceptable limits, usually 80 to 135 volts. This prevents sag and swells from shutting down or damaging equipment.

Voltage regulators are used mostly for linear loads, and for loads that have voltage-dependent automatic shutoffs, such as some mini and mainframe computers. While they have special uses within the military, medicine, and industry, their applications in other areas are very restricted. Many, though not all, power-line conditioners also provide voltage regulation.
