New rates for customers
On Dec. 6, 2007, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission approved a $55 million increase — effective Jan. 1, 2008 — in the distribution rates that PPL Electric Utilities charges customers.
The increase will help us maintain and improve our poles, wires and equipment so that we can continue to provide reliable service. In addition, it will increase funding for low-income customer assistance programs and provide funding for new energy efficiency programs.
The PUC also has approved several other rate adjustments that will affect the total bill paid by customers, effective Jan. 1, 2008. These include adjustments to the generation, distribution, transition and transmission charges, and an annual adjustment to the Pennsylvania State Tax Adjustment Surcharge.

How the changes affect your bill
The effect of the above rate changes on individual customers will vary depending on usage levels and rate schedule. The chart below shows examples of the effect of these changes for various rate schedules. These changes apply only to the electricity you used after Dec. 31, 2007. As a result, your January bill only partially reflects the new rates.
