Pricing Info Guide
The prices shown on the chart are taken from the PJM Web site. Those figures are then changed slightly to more closely reflect a price a customer would pay.
The Web site shows two prices in graph and table form. They are:
Day-Ahead Prices – which are a projection of what the prices are expected to be for the next day. This price is shown in green. These are posted by 5:00 pm the day before.
Real-Time Price – the actual price of generation on the PJM system at any given time. This is called the “open market.” This price is shown in red.
Influence of Market Conditions
The scale and price of electricity can vary widely on any given day. If you use the calendar feature you can go back in time and sample different weather and market conditions and see how price is effected. Below are some sample charts taken directly from our archive. These show how market conditions and weather can affect electricity pricing.
