Whether we’re mentoring budding engineers, tutoring school children, cleaning up neighborhood parks or assisting veterans, we continually seek new ways to invest our time and resources into our communities.
Safety
We have a variety of programs to teach electrical safety to children, first responders, contractors and members of the public. Our Live Line Safety Exhibit has been used for demonstrations given to more than 20,000 people. We partner with Pennsylvania 811 to help spread the word about how important it is to call before digging. In addition, we’re aiming to deliver in-school programming to 100,000 children over five years.
From donating books to summer reading programs to funding STEM school programs, PPL supports high-quality educational opportunities for all students, with a particular emphasis to those in need. PPL is also celebrating 25 years of partnering with Allentown schools to bring employee volunteers into the classroom.
Employees are generous donors of volunteer time in schools, food banks, youth sports organizations, and many other community settings. PPL encourages employees to volunteer. In fact, the company donates $1,000 to nonprofits if an employee volunteers at least 40 hours in a calendar year. In 2018, employees volunteered more than 20,000 hours.
The PPL Foundation has contributed more than $7 million to a wide variety of nonprofit organizations since its inception in 2015, and PPL and its employees raise millions each year for United Way. PPL Electric Utilities was one of the first utilities to establish a fuel fund for customers in need. Operation HELP provides emergency financial aid to pay heating bills for families with financial hardships. It is funded by PPL Electric Utilities, our employees, retirees and our generous customers.
