PPL taking electrical safety message to thousands of school children
Electrical hazards cause thousands of injuries each year across the United States.
At PPL Electric Utilities, we’re trying to prevent those injuries and accidents from happening. Safety is a top priority both for our employees and the people in the communities we serve. As part of our public safety outreach, we’re delivering to valuable electrical safety lessons that will last a lifetime with the help of high-energy theatrical performances brought each year to schools throughout our service territory.
“The Safety Detectives in Hot Pursuit,” performed by actors from the National Theatre for Children, is an interactive, high-energy show geared to elementary school children. Schools participating in the program are given electrical safety workbooks, teacher guides and posters to help reinforce the message. The program is free to schools and sponsored by PPL Electric Utilities.
Our goal is to deliver to program to 100,000 children over five years. To date, nearly 45,000 youngsters at more than 100 schools have seen the performances, which have gotten high praise from teachers and students alike.
“Well-done, energetic and fun,” one teacher from a South Williamsport area school said after a performance. “The kids were engaged and learned from the performance. I enjoyed it too.”
Over a five-year period, we’re offering the program to all schools with enrollments of 350 or more in our service territory, which covers more than 10,000 square miles in 29 counties.
