Temporary Service

Request short-term service

PPL Electric Utilities will supply temporary electric service for less than one year, or for a year or more when PPL Electric Utilities must install facilities that will be used solely for a service that is known to be limited in duration (construction site, special events, etc.). Service is supplied for not less than one month. We recommend applying for temporary service at least 12 weeks before service is needed.

Our Contractor Services tool is a convenient way to submit and track requests for temporary single-phase electric service work, single-phase service upgrades and electrical inspections. Requests for three-phase service or new electric service bill accounts are not part of this tool.

Contractor Services Tool

Connection of Electric Service:

  1. Customer applies for work request number by calling 1-800-342-5775 for single-phase service; and 1-888-220-9991 for three-phase service.
  2. Customer pays, in advance, a non-refundable temporary connection charge equal to PPL Electric Utilities’ estimated installed cost and net removal cost of all necessary facilities other than transformer, service drop, and metering.
  3. Customer faxes or mails a completed Application for Electric Service to 484-634-3484 or PPL Electric Utilities, 827 Hausman Road, Allentown, PA 18104.
  4. Customer arranges for an electrical inspection by a certified electrical inspector (refer to yellow pages, or phone co. directory assistance).

Electric Service Process and Responsibilities:

1. Overhead Temporary Service

  • Customer applies for work request # by calling 1-800-342-5775 for single phase, and 1-888-220-9991 for three-phase service.
  • Customer receives service location approval from PPL Electric Utilities technician/engineer.
  • Customer pays, in advance, any necessary charges.
  • PPL Electric Utilities installs off-site facilities (pole, line, transformer).
  • Customer installs temporary metering facilities.
  • Inspection card received by UCC (Uniform Construction Code) inspection.
  • PPL Electric Utilities energizes service and sets meter.
  • Overhead temporary service involving meter and service drop.
  • Customer applies for work request.
  • PPL Electric Utilities energizes service and sets meter.

2. Underground Temporary Service

  • Customer applies for work request # by calling 1-800-342-5775 for single-phase, and 1-888-220-9991 for three-phase service.
  • Customer receives service location approval from PPL Electric Utilities technician/engineer.
  • Customer pays, in advance, any necessary charges.
  • Customer installs conduit and temporary metering facilities.
  • Inspection card received by Uniform Construction Code (UCC) inspection.
  • PPL Electric Utilities energizes service and sets meter.
