PPL Electric Utilities

What’s included in your business’ electric bill?

As a new year is upon us, you may be reviewing 2025 financial statements and making adjustments to your budget. Utility bills are an important part of your operating expenses, and we know they can be challenging to understand. That’s why we’ve broken down each dollar of your bill into four simple sections.

We are committed to operating efficiently and controlling the costs that we can while still ensuring reliable service for your business.

Your energy dollar explained:

Debunking Data Center Myths: What you should know With discussions about data centers on the rise, it’s common for misconceptions to circulate. Here are five important facts about data centers in our service area, so your business can understand how these facilities may effect you.
  1. Data centers aren’t raising distribution rates: Our request to change distribution rates is focused on improving reliability and customer service, not because of data center development.
  2. They pay for their own system upgrades: Large data centers connect to the transmission system rather than the distribution system. They pay for upgrades required specifically for their operations and also contribute to the costs of improvements that benefit everyone.
  3. They can help lower your energy bill: Large users like data centers pay a greater portion of transmission costs based on their energy consumption. This means that as these customers are connected, the transmission part of your electric bill is expected to decrease.
  4. Your business is protected from extra costs: We require large customers like data centers to sign agreements with financial and electricity usage commitments, safeguarding other businesses from additional costs.
  5. Fair and equal treatment for all: As a regulated utility, PPL Electric is required to treat all connection requests the same —data centers are evaluated just like any other business seeking to connect to the grid.
