November 2020 Residential Connect

Our grid is ready to keep you clean and green

There are more than 10,000 solar systems installed within our service area. With solar panels becoming more and more affordable, we know this is just the start.

In fact, the pace of new systems installed so far this year is already ahead of last year. That’s a good thing, because it means more cleaner and greener power is becoming available. We’ve been making investments in our grid to make sure it’s ready to keep up with the changing energy landscape. The power grid of 2020 is vastly different than even a generation ago.

Today, power flows in two directions. It takes the traditional route, flowing from a power plant to your home or business over transmission and distribution lines. Plus, power comes back onto the grid from renewable energy sources like rooftop solar or wind turbines.

The investments we make in our grid help us effectively manage the flow of that new energy. That helps us avoid more costly alternatives, like building new power lines or substations, which helps keep rates reasonable.

Best of all, we’ve made it easy for you to apply to install systems that make power from the sun or wind. Most applications get approved within a day.

Are you considering installing solar or wind power for your home or business? Our state-of-the-art grid is ready to welcome you.

Ask Meg

It’s been a rough year, and we’re struggling with our bills. What can you tell me about the LIHEAP program? Can it help my family with our energy bills?

You’re right. The LIHEAP program may be able to help. LIHEAP is a federal program that provides direct grants to help you pay your energy bill. It opens on November 2. If you’re eligible, it could be a great opportunity to get some relief. Just visit pplelectric.com/billhelp for information. At that site, you’ll also find details on other ways that we can help with your bills. We can set you up with a payment plan, put you on budget billing or enroll you in one of our assistance programs.

Apply for direct grants starting 11/2/20.

We believe in the power of diversity

There’s strength in diversity. That’s why it’s important for us to build and sustain a diverse workforce. It’s the right thing to do, and it’s good business.

We also believe in promoting diversity outside of PPL. And we want to make sure the companies that supply us with products and services reflect our core value of diversity and inclusion.

We have a supplier diversity program to source and promote suppliers of all backgrounds, including businesses owned by women, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, veterans or persons with disabilities.

The program is making an impact. Since 2016, PPL’s spending with diverse businesses has doubled! That translates to better partnership options for PPL.

And the future looks bright. We recently named a new leader of our supplier diversity initiatives, Sandy Schrauger (pictured), and we’re committed to increasing our reliance on diverse suppliers in the years to come.

In the market for a green future

The world has changed this year, but our Community Roots program is going strong!

This fall, PPL volunteers visited farmers markets throughout the area to give away about 1,000 free trees. It’s part of our commitment to working toward a cleaner future for us all.

Since 2017, we’ve given away more than 80,000 free trees to municipalities, environmental groups and schools as part of our Community Roots program. This fall, our team visited markets in Hellertown, Scranton and Williamsport.
