What is budget billing and how can it help?

Let’s be honest. There are certain times of year when we use more electricity than usual. Summer – with all its fans and air conditioners – is one of those times.

If you don’t want to get surprised by a larger-than-normal electricity bill, consider smoothing out your payments to make them more predictable.

It’s called budget billing, and it’s available to everyone, even if you’re already on a payment agreement. Here are the details:
  • We’ll take the average of your electricity use over the past 12 months to determine your monthly budget amount. If you’ve lived in your current location for less than six months, we’ll estimate your use based on your household information.
  • For at least three months, your bill will be the same, so you can plan your budget accordingly.
  • Important: Every three months, we’ll look back at your use and, if necessary, adjust your budget amount. If you’re using more electricity than expected, your bill might increase. If you’re using less, it might be lower.
  • After 12 months, we’ll settle the difference between your actual energy use and the amount you were billed.
You can sign up for budget billing at pplelectric.com/budget.

If you’re struggling with your electric bill, budget billing is just one way we can help. We offer payment arrangements, debt forgiveness and grants, you can choose your bill due date, and more. Just visit pplelectric.com/billhelp for details.

Lightning in sky

Summer storms are on the horizon. Are you prepared?

Summer season is storm season. Thunderstorms, lightning strikes, heavy winds and hurricanes can cause havoc. Often, they can cause power outages.

We’re prepared to respond to any storms that hit our area. When outages occur, we’ll work around the clock — as safely and quickly as possible — to get the lights back on.

And, thanks to the investments we’ve made in smart grid technology, we can often stop an outage before it even occurs. In fact, with state-of-the-art automated sensors and switches, plus our advanced software system, we’ve avoided more than one million customer outages since 2015.

We want you to be prepared in case there are outages this summer. Here are a few precautions you can take BEFORE a storm hits to keep your family and home safe:

  • Use surge protectors to help protect your appliances and electronics.
  • Have ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) professionally installed on your outlets. These devices can cut off power instantly if there's a safety hazard.
  • Prepare and maintain an emergency kit with food, water, medication and pet supplies.
  • Charge your phones and other devices before severe storms.

When storms hit, visit pplelectric.com or follow us on social media to stay up to date.

Keeping our web experience inclusive

If you’ve visited pplelectric.com recently, you’ve noticed that the site is looking a lot different. We’ve spent the past year talking to customers and then making significant upgrades to the site. Our goal: Make it easier than ever for everyone to get the service they need with a few keystrokes.

And we mean everyone.

We’re committed to making sure our web experience is accessible to every single customer, regardless of their disability status. So, when we heard from customers who have visual impairments—including customers who cannot differentiate certain colors—we knew we needed to take action.

  • We updated our online bill pay section to better support individuals with visual impairment.
  • We’re testing and implementing designs that use larger icons, which are more noticeable and legible for customers with colorblindness.

We’re not stopping there. We’ll be checking in with customers of all types – including individuals with disabilities – regularly as we continue to improve our website in a customer-first, accessible way.
