When it comes to making your home more energy efficient, the first step doesn’t have to be complicated. For many customers, a no‑cost Virtual Home Energy Assessment, paired with personalized insights from the Energy Analyzer, is the easiest and most effective way to get started.

"The advisor systematically walked me through the various aspects of our energy usage and how to better manage the heat pump for optimization. He asked pertinent questions regarding our energy-related behaviors and gave logical and practical recommendations that we will immediately act on. He pointed out the availability of data on the website that we can use to monitor our progress. I was very happy with this session. In a short time, I was able to have a lot of questions answered, with clear explanations."

Stories like these highlight exactly why a virtual assessment is such a smart place to start: it’s simple, personalized and gives you a clear understanding of your home’s energy habits. You’ll also learn about rebates and incentives and receive a free energy‑saving kit shipped directly to your door.

WHAT DOES THE ENERGY ANALYZER DO?

Our Energy Analyzer can quickly point to unusually high “Always On” usage, an indication that something is running continuously behind the scenes. Our advisors work with homeowners to rule out possibilities and make some recommendations.

In just one instance, a homeowner was able to work with an HVAC technician to identify and replace a faulty part that was driving more than $85 in energy usage each month. Using the Energy Analyzer, customers can then review the effect of their changes, most noticing significant energy usage reductions.

Question: With spring finally here, what can I do now to get my home ready to save energy during the summer cooling season?

Answer: Great question — spring is the perfect time to get ahead of summer heat. A few simple steps can help keep you comfortable while reducing energy use all season long.

Inside your home

  • Check and replace air filters. A clean filter helps your cooling system run more efficiently and maintain good airflow.
  • Schedule an HVAC tune‑up. A spring inspection can catch issues early, improve performance and help lower cooling costs.
  • Seal air leaks. Use weatherstripping or caulk around windows, doors and vents to keep cool air inside and hot air out.
  • Close blinds or shades during sunny afternoons. Reducing direct sunlight can help keep rooms cooler naturally.

Outside your home

  • Clear debris around your outdoor AC unit. Remove leaves, dirt and branches to improve airflow and help the system operate more efficiently.
  • Trim vegetation around equipment. Keep at least two feet of clearance around the outdoor condenser for optimal performance.
  • Inspect your home’s exterior for gaps. Seal openings around pipes, foundation cracks or siding gaps to reduce heat infiltration.
  • Consider planting shade trees. Strategically placed landscaping can help reduce direct sun on your home, lowering cooling needs over time.

Take these steps now and your home will be ready to stay cool as temperatures rise. Visit SaveWithPPL.com for more ways to save.
