TOU Frequently Asked Questions

More information about the time-of-use rate plan

How do I know if the time-of-use rate plan is right for me?

To save money on a time-of-use plan, you would need to shift usage away from the on-peak hours of 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the summer and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the winter. For example, you can run the dishwasher at 9 p.m. and do laundry on weekends. You also can install timers on other equipment such as water heaters, pool pumps and dehumidifiers to lower your on-peak usage.

Are there any costs to enroll in the time-of-use program?

No, there are no costs to enroll and you may cancel any time without penalty.

How do I cancel the time-of-use plan? Are there any costs to cancel?

There are no costs or penalties to cancel. You can cancel at any time, and your cancellation will be effective at your next full bill cycle. You can also switch to an electricity supplier and your time-of-use enrollment will automatically end.

Can I keep my electricity supplier?

No, but some suppliers may offer their own time-of-use plan. PPL’s time-of-use plan is for customers who do not have an electricity supplier. To enroll in PPL’s time-of-use plan, you would need to switch from your current electricity supplier to PPL. Whether you will save money will depend on your supplier’s current price and how you use electricity. Before deciding whether to switch, please contact your current supplier first. Be sure to ask whether there are any early cancellation fees or penalties.

How will my bill change if I choose the time-of-use rate?

You will continue to receive your bill from PPL. On the billing details section, you will see separate charges for on- and off-peak supply charges.

Who is eligible for the time-of-use program?

Many residential and small business customers are eligible. OnTrack, large power, virtual metering, lighting only, unmetered and certain other types of accounts are not eligible.

I have solar panels and am a net metering customer. Am I eligible?

Yes, most residential and small business net metering customers are eligible. Net metering time-of-use bills will track how many on- and off-peak hours you have in your bank.

When will the time-of-use program be available?

This time-of-use program will run from June 1, 2019, through May 31, 2021.

Where can I access my home or business’s usage?

You can view or export your usage on a monthly, daily or even hourly basis by logging in to your account. Customers who are enrolled in the time-of-use plan can see how much on- and off-peak energy they are using each day. You can also view up to four years of usage history.
